Reimagining the Outdoors

Our aim in everything we do is to create the best possible play and learning experiences, bearing in mind the surrounding environment and the project budget.

We deliver a variety of outdoor transformations by adding accents of creativity throughout the existing space for simple change or by taking things right back to the basics and installing a complete redesign.

Research & Considerations

Before we get started on anything we invest a lot of time discussing your needs and making notes of the existing opportunities and potential of the space and the surrounding environment.

When we scope a project, there are many factors that we need to consider. These are the foundations that we strive to deliver in any space, regardless of size, location or budget:

  • Enhancements of existing space to meet different play needs
  • Development of creative learning environments
  • The vital connection between learning and nature
  • Designing and resourcing outdoor natural play spaces

Developing a design is a fully collaborative process.

Design Development

Developing a design is a fully collaborative process. We engage with staff, pupils and communities at all levels within the schools to ensure that the end result is something that not only looks beautiful, but serves a positive experiential purpose for all to enjoy.

The process of design development can typically be split into four different stages:

  • Where are we now?
  • Where do we want to be?
  • How do we get there?
  • Making the changes.

As well as guiding and supporting you through each stage of the process, we will suggest ways you can engage pupils and the wider school community in the project.

Once the “where do we want to be?” phase has been established Pauline is then able to start developing a bespoke landscape design for your provision. Alternatively, Pauline can provide you with the tools you need and advise you how to go about developing a plan for your site yourself.

When the design has been created and signed off, we can manage all aspects of the project which includes: budget management, sourcing resources, coordination of work on site, and contractor liaison/relationship management. If this is an element of the process you wish to carry out yourself, we can be on hand to guide and support you through the process from start to finish.

If you would like to find out more about making changes to your outdoor space, or would like to book a half/full day visit with Pauline, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on 01346 571533 or at pauline@urbangreendesign.org.
